what are the advantages and disadvantages of self-adhesive labels?

Compared with shrink sleeves, the core advantages of self-adhesive labels lie in their flexibility in application, lower cost, and ease of operation. However, they have obvious limitations in coverage, adaptability to irregular shapes, and durability, and the scenarios they are suitable for are significantly different.

I. Core Advantages of Self-Adhesive Labels
More Cost-Effective and User-Friendly
Self-adhesive labels do not require processes such as tube-making and heat shrinking, resulting in a shorter production process and lower costs for small batch orders. Labeling can be done without specialized heating equipment; manual application or simple labeling machines are sufficient, making them suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises or temporary labeling needs.
More Flexible Labeling Scenarios
They can be applied partially as needed (e.g., only on the side of the bottle or the cap), without covering the entire container. This is ideal for scenarios where only core information (such as price and ingredients) needs to be displayed. They are also available in single sheets or rolls, compatible with different labeling equipment.
Richer Material Options
In addition to conventional films and papers, they can be made with special materials such as thermal paper, fragile paper, and removable adhesives to meet more functional requirements. For example, thermal self-adhesive labels can directly print variable information (such as production dates), and fragile paper can provide tamper-proof and anti-counterfeiting features.

II. Main Disadvantages of Self-Adhesive Labels
Limited Coverage and Decorative Effect
They cannot achieve 360° full coverage of the container and can only be applied partially, resulting in a much weaker visual impact compared to shrink sleeves. For irregularly shaped bottles and curved containers, they may lift at the edges or adhere unevenly, affecting the integrity of the packaging.
Weaker Durability
Most self-adhesive labels have poor resistance to water, oil, and friction. When exposed to humid environments or oil (such as on bottles of condiments or personal care products) for a long time, they may peel off or have their patterns worn away.
Higher Requirements for Container Surfaces
They need to be applied to smooth and clean container surfaces. If the container surface has textures, unevenness, or oil stains, it will directly affect the adhesion strength. In contrast, shrink sleeves can adapt to a certain degree of surface unevenness through heat shrinking.
